Venturing just forty minutes out along the Backroads Trail from either Barham, Deniliquin, Mathoura or Echuca-Moama, you will arrive at Jungle Lane, the turn off to our “Restdown” property.
We will be pleased to welcome you to our cellar door to sample our outstanding range of varietal wines such as the ever popular Restdown Merlot and Shiraz, the Provencâle-style Rosè, the Italian-style Sangiovese, and the award winning Semillon.
“At Restdown we have adopted a ‘slow wine’ philosophy in both our wine making and our wine consuming, allowing the wines to express the full character of the grapes and the area within which they are grown. Minimal human intervention is our focus, so we avoid the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, use straw mulch to control weeds and conserve water and add minimal amounts of preservative to our wine. (Many of our regular customers find that they can enjoy our wine without the allergic reactions they often experience from heavily sulphured wines). Egg white fining is used only when absolutely necessary, with no chooks ever being harmed in the winemaking process!” (Jo Hearn, Winemaker)
Activities you can do.
As proud, founding members of the Backroads Trail, we invite you to call in at other Backroads Trail businesses, to sample and purchase some of this region’s fantastic local produce. Once you’ve stocked up on local goodies, simply bring your picnic lunch to Restdown where you can relax with a glass of our finest, whilst looking out at the vines or enjoying our 25 hectare wetland.
Wetland Walking Trail.
Why not take some time out to visit our 1.4km walking trail and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Australian bush?
Along the trail you will see signs of natural as well as human heritage, as you pass by an Aboriginal hearth and scarred tree, signs of early pastoral settlement such as an old sheep camp and ringbarked trees as well as modern farming practices including new tree plantings, bat boxes and irrigation recycling projects. Who knows, you may also catch a glimpse of one of our resident goannas, rare bird species or kangaroos.
The trail is an easy 1 hour walk over flat ground and takes you beside an old river system that existed around 25,000 years ago. Now a natural ephemeral wetland and black box woodland, this area is an example of one of Australia’s most highly diverse and productive environments, drying out periodically to create a broad range of habitats which change over the cycles of wetting and drying. Bird watchers, historians, conservationists, school groups, nature lovers and holiday makers will all find something of interest to delight the senses, as they stroll around this tranquil reserve which remains to this day, an integral part of our working farm.

We look forward to seeing you.
